I was recently hired to photograph the Otay Lakes area in South San Diego County, for a client wanting some photos on their website of the area their center is located in. (Otay Lakes Surgery Center).
And on-site photoshoot is always an adventure, and one I look forward to. I relish seeing a new place and enjoy the process of exploration and photography. This is doubly true when I get to travel to an area I’ve never been before. This is the case with this shoot: though I’m a native San Diegan, I haven’t spent much time in the south counties, and never been to this area, despite loving hiking natural areas.
It was very interesting seeing, for example, the Otay Reservoir Dam for the first time (when I traveled to the Otay area to shoot the buildings earlier) and reading about the history of it’s construction in 1897 and, its destruction during some huge storms early in the 20th century.
Also tried some infrared with my old IR-modified 3.2MP Sony sub-compact. Had a problem with the stitching of the panorama though: brightness values wouldn’t match. However it’s still interesting to look at, and you can still see the potential of the shot to be evocative.
